Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work

Everyone has an opinion about Joan Rivers.  And those opinions range from love to hate.  But regardless of what you think of her, this is a really interesting documentary.  Two women, Ricki Stern and Anne Sundberg, followed Rivers around for one year, recording absolutely everything.  You get to see how this 75 year old woman (77 now) never stops.  Her biggest fear in life is an empty calendar, so she accepts virtually every job that comes along.  (Go ahead, ask her to perform at your next company Christmas party or your son's Bar Mitzvah!)  You get to see her life of luxury that she can barely afford.  You get to hear her refer to herself as an industry, keeping a small army of people employed.  And you get to hear first-hand about the tragedy of her husband’s suicide, and about her feud with Johnny Carson which resulted in her being blacklisted from most talk shows and the resulting descent of her career.  This is no holds barred reality TV.  And Rivers is a great sport.  So turn off the Jersey Shore and go rent this DVD.
