Case 39
Renee Zellweger plays a social services employee overwhelmed with 38 open case. But they ain't nuthin' compared to newly assigned Case 39, of a girl whose parents seem out to get her. Bradley Cooper and Ian McShane co-star as a psychiatrist and policeman, respectively, who befriend Zellweger in helping the girl.
This is the latest entry in the creepy little girl horror genre. That genre is getting a little old, but seriously is there anything creepier than a creepy little girl? This one is more than a little similar to 'Orphan', which was very entertaining. In fact, the girl, played by Jodelle Ferland, even looks like the girl in 'Orphan'. That's creepy in and of itself!
I had heard mostly poor things about this film. And I admit, it seems derivative of other creepy girl horror films, and you can pretty much see where it's going, but I still kind of enjoyed it. It's frightening at times and all in all a decent horror suspense thriller with some scares. But please, enough of those creepy little girls. I want to be able to buy some thin mints without having nightmares, is that too much to ask?
