Phantom

Aptly titled, and with an appropriate tagline, this thriller about a Russian submarine crew appeared out of nowhere.  And despite minimal marketing it's still surprisingly getting a wide release, probably due to its cast which includes Ed Harris, David Duchovny, William Fichtner, and Lance Henriksen.  Though it should have remained under the radar and went straight to DVD, because it's truly painful to watch.  And that's a real shame, as Ed Harris is a really fine actor and a great guy, and Fichtner and Duchovny are usually pretty fun.  But nothing works here.  There's no suspense, no action, no good dialogue, and the biggest mystery is the lack of any Russian accent from anyone without any explanation why not.  I feel bad for Harris being in this disappointment.  'The Hunt for Red October' and 'Crimson Tide' it is not.
