Out of the Furnace

Christian Bale and Casey Affleck play down-on-their-luck brothers falling on hard times.  And their lives take a turn for the worse when they cross paths with a psychotic hillbilly played by Woody Harrelson.  The supporting cast includes Willem Dafoe, Forest Whitaker, and Zoe Saldana.

This violent and gritty crime thriller along the lines of 'Winter's Bone' meets 'No Country for Old Men' has all the ingredients to be something great.  But it's just not.  It's only ok.  And that's really disappointing.  The cast is superb and their performances are strong, but there's just nothing remarkable about the script or the final product.  It's only fair and leaves you feeling unsatisfied.  File it in the same disappointment folder as 'The Counselor'.
