The Legend of Hercules
It's only January 10th but it's already been a pretty rough 2014 for movies. That's to be expected of course, as January releases are known to be the spillover of films that weren't worth getting a release in the fourth quarter and therefore eligible for awards season. Clearly no studio executive was expecting any awards buzz for this Greek mythology action B-film. It surely didn't even deserve a theatrical release. In fact, it doesn't even deserve a VOD release. In fact, it's not even worthy of the USA network, who ran the Kevin Sorbo series about the same titular hero. It's like watching 'Clash of the Titans' but without all those cool monsters and bad-ass gods played by A-list actors. Or like '300' but with less impressive special effects. Or like 'Gladiator' but without ... umm ... absolutely everything that made 'Gladiator' a great film. And as for Kellan Lutz? I know the ladies love him, but his bio reads like a list of movies to avoid at all costs. I found myself wishing it were Gerard Butler instead, and that's saying a lot!
Who is this movie for? Only die hard action fans who are jonesing for a fix in 3D, even if it is a poor man's '300' meets 'Clash of the Titans'. But really, you can do soooo much better!
