About Last Night
It's a surprisingly rare event these days to get a comedy that actually makes me laugh, and I'm pleased to say 'About Last Night' succeeded where many have failed. Based on the 1986 comedy starring Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, James Belushi, and Elizabeth Perkins (which was based on a play written by David Mamet), this is a dirtier, sexier comedy for those who prefer their comedy to come with a hard R rating. There's nothing original about the story, of course, but it's the fast paced dialogue that brings it to life, in no small part by motor-mouth Kevin Hart. This film really plays to Hart's strength, allowing him to do what he does best: profane improv. But the rest of the cast, including Regina Hall and Michael Ealy (both of whom co-starred with Hart in Think Like a Man) and Joy Bryant all bring the charm as well. Fortunately this film is a lot more Think Like a Man and a lot less Ride Along. It's a good date movie for Valentine's day, assuming you aren't turned off by crude humor cranked up to a 11.
Who is this movie for? Those who enjoy the better, funnier, sexier African American ensemble comedies like Think Like a Man, and who aren't offended by hearing words like p----. A lot.
