Ride Along

The buddy cop action comedy seems to be a long lost art.  It's been a long time since classics like '48 Hours', 'Beverly Hills Cop', 'Lethal Weapon', and 'Running Scared'.  (Come to think of it, why was it always a black guy and a white guy?)  Now we get crap like 'Cop Out', 'The Heat', and 'Ride Along'.  Yeech!  These newer disappointments all seem to have forgotten the key ingredients, like good action and good comedy.  Oh, and how about chemistry?  You can't just throw in any chatty goofball newbie with any jaded, angry seasoned detective and expect sparks to fly.  This one just feels like it was written in the 80's and sat on the shelf since then, while it's been made in other forms a gazillion times already.  I'd recommend finding your own ride, or just walking.

Grade: D+

Who is this movie for?  Those of you who loved 'Lethal Weapon 3', but always wished Joe Pesci was black, Danny Glover was even more pissed off, Mel Gibson called out sick, and they removed all those fun action scenes, clever dialogue, and great chemistry.
