This doc, narrated by magician Penn Jillette and directed by fellow magician and partner Teller, explores an inventor's obsession with a painter from the 17th Century named Johannes Vermeer. At a time when most paintings looked unrealistic, Vermeer was creating paintings that looked like photographs. To this day, no one knows how he did it. Inventor Tim Jenison sets out to figure out how Vermeer did it and then to create his own. The most astounding thing to me is what some really brilliant people with too much money and too much free time choose to do with it. But it's a fun doc of a brilliant man obsessed with his goal. (Remind you of anyone?)
Who is this movie for? Fans of documentaries about obsessive hobbyists. Count me in.
