In 2010 a documentary called 'Restrepo', featuring interviews and real on location footage of soldiers doing a 15 month tour in one of the most dangerous areas of Afghanistan, went on to receive a lot of critical praise and an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary. It was a real look behind the curtain at what it's like being under fire every day for 15 months. Liked 'Lone Survivor'? 'Restrepo' is the real thing. And now, we get more interviews and more footage from the same troops in the same dangerous valey of Korengal. On the upside, it's more of the same. On the downside, it's more of the same. It doesn't feel like an additional film, as much as extra footage from 'Restrepo' that might be found in the special features on the DVD. It's compelling, and if you liked 'Restrepo' by all means go see it while it's in limited release in theaters. But it's really just more of the same.
Who is this movie for? Those who liked 'Restrepo' and want more of a look at what our troops have to go through.
