Ambitious failures are hard to watch, and even harder to grade. Mind you, I love the art house sci-fi and always look forward to them. Often times what they lack in budget they make up for in creativity. 'The Signal', however, is beyond me. Confusing right from the start, we jump right into a group of computer nerds on a road trip who decide to take a detour to track down a hacker who has been bothering them. It's 85% painfully dull and 15% intriguing yet unintelligible mess. On the plus side it has some interesting visuals. But the storytelling is poor. And storytelling is always the most key.
Who is this movie for? Fans of ambitious art house sci-fi may want to catch it later in the year on VOD/DVD.
